I am a person who spend 2 hours daily on trains. I get to crack all absurdities and ideas of mine during that time. During my first days of my travel in London I used to read something or play games. But I quickly got bored of all those. I started to think weird( may be as usual). My "Metro Rail plan for Kochi" is one such thing. My metro rail plan for my Kochi( incl. MAP) was created from ideas acquired from several days of travel in Kochi. ( Sounds Ridiculous?) .
I have a special love for my home city, Kochi. Kochi is undoubtedly the economic capital of Kerala. There are thousands and thousands of people travelling in and out daily. Kochi, which has a big love in promoting IT companies have it not just around the IT corridor, it almost spread across the city. Many more projects like the Vallarpadam international container terminal in Vallarpadam, Smart city in Kakkanad, the logistics hub(FTWZ) in Wellington islands will definitely change the face of the city. More number of people will start to choose Kochi as their base. As these projects get into full flow the number of people commuting will increase like crazy. Taking the increase in petroleum prices into account, the use of public transport in my city will naturally go up( probably people should use more PT).
My Metro Rail Plan for my Kochi
It might be ditchy but i've prepared a detailed map with 6 lines of metro rail for Kochi with detailed mapping of stations. Definitely, the plan is highly inspired from the London Underground, but I have tried to neatly fit it into the geography of Kochi(as I know) and planned according to the future traffic situations in mind, not as per the passenger load factors. My heart likes to see something like this, but my concious self says that this is undoubtedly impossible, but have a look at my effort.
My plan for Kochi metro rail consists of 6 lines. Airport Line, Smart City Line, Vallarpadam Line, Fort Kochi Line, New City Line and the Central Line.
The Airport line : International airport till Wellington Island via the city.
The Smart City line : Smart city till Eda Kochi and Thoppumpadi via Maradu.
Fort Kochi line : Fort Kochi till Poothotta via Vyttila and Tripunithura.
The Vallarpadam line :Vallarpadam container terminus to the Smart City via the city. (an extension from Kadavatra to kaloor)
New City Line : Tripunithura Railway complex till Kalamassery Appolo Tyres.
Central Line : Connecting Aroor and Edappalli extending to Chittoor.
This plan expects certain projects to be finished along with the finish of the metro rail, like: The Vytilla mobility Hub, Tripunithura Railway complex with bus station and obviously the Smart City. The airport line is almost the same as the original metro rail plan, except that it continues till the Welllington islands. The rest of the five lines are equally important. Detailed information can be got from the map view.

Thank you Jiyad, Shri. Dhanuraj's ideas are quite interesting, especially the ones like the sponsorship of stations by corporates like Lulu, Sheemati, etc. I agree with the point that the current alignment would not suffice the transportation problems of Kochi. But that doesn't mean that Kochi is not worth a metro. In fact, yes, there are many other problems which might lead into menaces, like, drainage, recycling, roads, flyovers, township, etc, that should be of primary concern. When these issues are solved, Kochi would definitely become the gods own city to live in.
